People who live in the United States and wish to send remittances to their relatives in Guatemala can already do so from their cell phones through the OKY application.
OKY seeks to make it easier for Guatemalans residing in the United States to send financial support to their family members, through prepaid digital vouchers from Guatemalan stores and brands.

“In this way, we join the call of the Government of Guatemala to help in times of crisis,” emphasized Victor Unda, co-founder of the platform.
To send a remittance from the official OKY site, the person in the United States must follow these steps to send a prepaid voucher to Guatemala.
- Download the OKY app on Google Play or App Store https://okyapp.com/
- Load the balance in cash with credit card or Paypal
- Choose the store or brand where your family member will make purchases.
- Select the amount of the voucher or a specific product.
- The family member receives a text message on his cell phone with a voucher code.

The App
OKY was developed by Guatemalans with the goal of improving the lives of Latin American migrants in the United States. It began operations in Guatemala to expand to the rest of the region. The application was launched on Wednesday, June 3. The Minister of the Economy, Antonio Malouf, participated in the event, who highlighted that “remittances are a fundamental engine of the country’s economy.”
