Prepaid and redeemable digital vouchers in Guatemala.
“OKY has made it possible to complement the family remittance and facilitate medium-value (monetary) shipments,” said Victor Unda, co-founder of the OKY App.
This platform allows Guatemalans living in the United States to send financial assistance to their relatives in Guatemala through prepaid digital vouchers that can be exchanged in at least 50 stores.
Thousands of users
Currently, Unda commented that “thousands of users” have already downloaded the application and sent to 21 of the 22 departments. Most have been assigned to the capital city and in the western area such as: Totonicapán, Huehuetenango and Quetzaltenango. The vouchers have been exchanged mainly for food, pharmacy, construction, among others. OKY is available for free on Google Play and App Store https://okyapp.com/. To make the shipment, Guatemalan migrants must access www.okyapp.com and look for an authorized point of sale where they can recharge the balance in cash. There are approximately 280 stores in California, Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. “We are opening up to 150 new stores per month,” said Unda.
